What’s the best month for selling your condo?
So many people mistakenly think that selling a condo in the last few months of the year is futile. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Our MLS study of closings over a three year period in our downtown area that includes the Gold Coast, Streeterville, River North, the Loop, South Loop and New East Side (Lakeshore East area) had a surprise finding: in 2009, the biggest month for closings was December! See the chart below.
Here in the City, we’ve found that the school year doesn’t rule home sales as much is it may in the suburbs. If you’re thinking of selling, December has its advantages: buyers who are looking are serious and buyers typically take time off from work and like to look – especially in the last week of December!
